Norman-Levin Racing has strong run at Irwindale
IRWINDALE, California -- Norman-Levin Racing drivers Ron Norman and Matt Levin showed their talent with a strong performance at Saturday’s K&N Pro Series King Taco Catering/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Irwindale Speedway in California. Mechanical issues late in the race led to finishes of 14th and 19th respectively from a 27 car field. However both of their Port of Tucson Toyota Camrys were highly competitive in an exciting race at the famed NASCAR short track 25 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
After qualifying 8th, Stormin Ron Norman showed promise early as he stayed right with the lead pack from the get go. Settling in nicely after the first 20 laps or so, the car came alive and he steadily passed through heavy traffic to move into 4th position. During great racing action, Ron was challenging for third with the two leaders battling side by side just ahead. Ron began experiencing brake issues around lap 100. "At one point I was pumping the brakes all the way down the back stretch just to have enough peddle to get through the turns” Norman said after the race. "We're disappointed with the final result, but we showed that we can run up front." Showing great driving skill he piloted his Port of Tucson #30 Toyota Camry through the remainder of the race with very little or no brakes finishing on the lead lap in 14th position.
Just as Ron began to slide back, Matt Levin started pushing forward. As the laps counted down his Port of Tucson #14 Toyota Camry took off and was steadily picking up positions one and sometimes two at a time. In a great run from 16th to 9th, Matt seemed ready for at least a Top 10 finish and maybe more as the race entered the late laps. Unfortunately a fuel delivery problem reared its ugly head and Matt had to move out of the way with just two laps to go finishing 19th on the grid. “The car felt great all night and we were right where we wanted to be at the end there but they really don’t like running without fuel” Matt said after the race. “We’ll figure out what failed and be ready for Tucson”.
The event will air on NBC Sports Network on Thursday, April 16.
